May 11, 2023 Great Auction Fort Lauderdale Coin Club, Florida, USA

On Thursday May 11, 2023, we had a great meeting at the Fort Lauderdale Coin Club with the attendance of 32 of our members, 3 guests and 6 vendors. Welcome to the new members who joined the club this evening at Volunteer Park in Plantation, Florida.

A large number of vendors were present and offered a great variety of numismatics pieces for the Members and guests who attended the event.

Soon the room was full and the numismatic speaker Gregg Wagner began his presentation, first by briefly going over the answers that we the members of the Fort Lauderdale Coin Club had given to the 15 questions in the Club Trivia Challenge organized by the American Numismatic Association on the occasion of the National Coin Week during the month of April this year. Soon our answers will be go to ANA to compete with the answers from the other coin clubs in the USA for one of the three prizes.

Gregg Wagner’s presentation this evening, entitled “History of the Dahlonega Mint when “gold was first discovered in the Dahlonega region in Georgia in the late 1820s,” and in 1830, a private mint was established and began to coin gold pieces. His presentation had slides that were shown to the public on the big screen at the conference room to show pictures of the gold coins, maps of the area, and of the Dahlonega Mint.

A short break to serve the food, allowed the members to give a look once again at the 94 items placed in the auction by the Active Members of the Fort Lauderdale Coin Club before it would start.

The auction began with Mark and Mark. Two junior runners helped to deliver the items. The interested bidders kept bidding high on the 94 items. Most of the items were sold at unforeseen prices.

The meeting concluded with the raffle of 3 prizes of silver coins and sets.
See you all at the Fort Lauderdale Coin Show and Coin Raffle on Sunday, May 21ST 2023 from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm.

Please remember to pay your membership 2023. Your membership is highly appreciated.

May 4th, 2023 Gold Coast Club Meeting

On May 4th, 2023, I attended the Gold Coast Coin Club Meeting in Hollywood, Florida. It was a very active meeting planning the next activities of the club.

If you were not there, you missed an excellent informal yet excellent conversation by one of the members on metals and the market, gold, silver, platinum, palladium and the present and potential expectations of cyber currencies and numismatics.

I won the trivia contest!

I completed the names of 10 different birds on the US Quarters :-)

See you on the next meeting on May 18th, 2023 in Hollywood, Florida.

March 19, 2023 Coin Show Fort Lauderdale Coin Club, Plantation, Florida

It was a great Coin Show at the Fort Lauderdale Coin Club’s monthly Coin Show and Coin Raffle in Plantation Florida on Sunday, March 19, 2023.

The place was packed!

Since early in the morning at 9:30 AM, there were lines of people, coin and currency collectors, entering the exhibition area. There were nearly 50 vendors, plus the Fort Lauderdale coin club member’s table, the young collector tables, and the coin supplies tables.

The large flow of people continued throughout the entire time from 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM. I was able to take this picture close to the end of the show, because we were all busy attending to the coin collectors.

The winners of the Coin Raffle were very happy with their prizes! Paul said he was very surprised that his ticket was picked amongst the many raffle tickets bought at the show and moreover that he won the first prize: the gold coin! The winer of the second prize had already left the show area but he answered the phone call and asked to keep it till the Coin Auction next Thursday when he will pick his prize: the silver coin! And the third prize went to Carolyne who said that she was the proud winner of a silver proof US quarter!
